Pretend you are a dog like me and listen to other people rather than steal their stories. So my initial conversational gambit - that I had a funny story about being chased by my neighbor's dog - would be totally lost, and only because you had to tell me all about Pele. For instance, if we met at a party and I wanted to tell you a story about the time I needed to get a soccer ball in my neighbor's yard but his dog chased me and I had to jump into a swimming pool to escape, and I began telling the story, you, hearing the words "soccer" and "neighbor" in the same sentence, might interrupt and mention that your childhood neighbor was Pele, the famous soccer player, and I might be courteous and say, Didn't he play for the Cosmos of New York? Did you grow up in New York? And you might reply that, no, you grew up in Brazil on the streets of Tres Coracoes with Pele, and I might say, I thought you were from Tennessee, and you might say not originally, and then go on to outline your genealogy at length. It's like being a passenger in your car who suddenly grabs the steering wheel and turns you down a side street. People, if you pay attention to them, change the direction of one another's conversations constantly. I never deflect the course of the conversation with a comment of my own. So, I guess that the fact that I hated where the story went so much, was in no small part due to how much I also loved this unique book.“Here's why I will be a good person. I'm sure that Christopher Evan Welch was a dog in a previous life. Even the great ending didn't abate my annoyance much. But right now, having just finished the book, this is how I feel. I suspect that a reread of the book will mellow my harsh feelings and make me love it again. Dammit, I went from listening with a sad smile (and even some tears) on my face, to listening with a grim determination to get the damn thing over with. The movie is based on the best-selling novel. I was actually angry at the book and had no enjoyment in listening for some time. This weekend sees the release of 20th Century Foxs The Art Of Racing In The Rain in cinemas across the US. 1 - Enzo is worried that Eve will come between him and Denny, resolved by Enzo seeing that Eve makes Denny and Zo happy therefore Enzo is happy. I actually paused my reading for weeks before picking it up again. 4 - Denny accused of the rape of a minor and loses custody of Zo. Then the story introduces a major (and vile) plot element that completely dominates the book. Reviewer love dogs101 wrote: I watched the movie about this book and itwas amazing they are so. The philosophical and somewhat melancholy musings of the dog that almost feels like a human is fresh and utterly brilliant, and again yes, sad and beautiful. Most people know The Art of Racing in the Rain as a bestselling 2008 novel by Garth Stein that made it to the screen in 2019. The Art of Racing in the Rain has 15 reviews and 12 ratings. The first four hours of this book is wonderful. It alludes to Denny's racing and all of the character's individual philosophy of life. As with all good titles, it has many meanings. If you could rename The Art of Racing in the Rain, what would you call it? He sounds honest, forthright, and strong, just like Enzo. Welch's voice emotes all the intelligence and wit possessed by Enzo. What about Christopher Evan Welch’s performance did you like? Fantastic book.Įnzo was insightful and intelligent and well versed in new age theory. All characters were fleshed out well and I felt the whole range of emotions Denny & Enzo. The depth of the observations made by the narrator about what it's like to be a dog were spot on. I finally listened to this after an Audible sale purchase and was amazed. I dodged this book for so long because I thought it would be simplistic as just another dog book riding the "Marley & Me" coat tails. What did you love best about The Art of Racing in the Rain?
